APRA is THE event for Prospect Researchers

I’m at the International Conference of the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) in Anaheim, California this week.  Rarely have I been this close to Disneyland and not gone in!  But there’s too much good stuff going on at the conference to get away – too many great educational sessions, too many colleagues to meet, and too many products to review in the Exhibition Hall.

Yesterday I led a pre-conference session with the unwieldy title of Ethical Considerations of Prospect Research in Healthcare.  We had a great conversation about fundraising in a healthcare context.  One insight that was offered by a participant was that ethical behavior goes beyond knowing and obeying laws like HIPAA.  It is about doing what is right in any circumstance.  Another great point was brought out that we should always keep in front of us in a healthcare fundraising context: no one should ever get the impression that the quality of their medical care depends on their philanthropic giving.

If you’re here at the conference, I hope to say hi!
